Exercise 1: Identify your “Why”

Anchor your intentions by clarifying your purpose as an oral health professional. Write down 1–2 sentences for each of the following prompts:

    • Why: Why are you driven to lead with prevention? What are your core beliefs?
    • How: How do you want to approach oral care differently?
    • What: What exactly do you want to offer your patients?

Example:

    • Why: I want every patient to fall in love with their smile.
    • How: By building trust and confidence in my patients through oral care services centred around prevention.
    • What: I want to offer education-first appointments, practical demonstrations of at-home oral care techniques, and long-term wellness planning.

Exercise 2: Map your patient journey

You have identified your preferred patient and your core vision. With this in mind, draw the full patient journey on a piece of paper. Consider how they experience each of the following steps:

    1. How they find you (online, referral, etc.)
    2. Booking experience
    3. Waiting room experience
    4. First conversation
    5. Exam or treatment
    6. Post-appointment follow-up

For each step, ask:

    • Is prevention included here?
    • Is there a way to highlight it more clearly?
    • Can we make the experience more educational, supportive, or proactive?

Exercise 3: Quick win commitment

Shifting to a prevention-led workflow does not happen overnight. But seeing early results will help you stay motivated and build momentum. Pick one small, manageable action you will implement within 2–4 weeks:
